You can use the free version of CutePDF.
http://www.cutepdf.com it works pretty good and will give you want you need.
You can download Open Office from www.openoffice.org, This has total compatibility with all the MS Office suite. It also has an export to pdf function from the file menu. It is free open source software.
The one I use with no problems whatsoever PDF995.
http://www.pdf995.com
download it install it and it works as if it were a printer.
Once installed, form your Word Document cllick File, Print, then on the Print Box that pops up (where you specify what printer to use) on the list of available printers you will see PDF995 listed as a printer. Pick it and click ok as if you're going to print. It then asks you where to save your Document as a PDF. Save as you would normally.
Google Docs can open a Word document and save it as a PDF file. If the Word doc is heavily formatted it might not look pixel for pixel exactly like it does in Office.
