OpenOffice has a lot of advantwages over MS Office!
First of all, it's free of cost! MS Office costs a bomb!
Second of all, it's bug free! MS Office always has patches for fixes!
And, yes, that feature is there, too. If you don't want to use it, don't!
It's just there to make it more user friendly.
Finally, did you consider the fact that OpenOffice is a product of SUN [Stanford University Networks]? The Creators of Solaris! One of the most reputed Universities in the World? The people who brought us Java and a host of other Softwares that MS is nowhere close to?
And you have MS Office 97?
Maan, that's an antique!
Check out OpenOffice and download and install it! It's legally free of cost!

You might also want to consider downloading and installing the state-of-the-art, free of cost Sun Solaris 10 OS which is way better than MS Windows and definitely a quantum jump forward from Windows 98.

It's free and it's 10 years newer than MS Office 97. I don't know what features MSO 97 has.
The one thing OOo *doesn't* have is an email handler (like Outlook). If you're getting by without that (like, say, if you're using Outlook Express, or Thunderbird, or Eudora, or strictly online like Yahoo!) then OOo covers all bases. (I'm not familiar with Office 97 - my first Office was 2000...)
