Is the PDF creator worth purchasing?
What circumstances would one want Adobe Acrobat for CREATING PDF files? A guy that I took an online course with always used it while the rest of us utilized Word format. Why would it be better? Should I just stay with Word?

I personally would stay with Word, especially if you're using it to transmit files that will need to be edited later. I hate PDF files--they're huge and take so very long to open in a window. It would be better if you absolutely do NOT want the documents edited. It's much too expensive to justify its use in anything other than perhaps a legal office situation.
If you want professional looking documents all the time then a PDF creator is worth buying (I personally do not have it).
However, what you want to have is a pdf converter. 99.9% of the time the word documents will be converted accurately to pdfs. I have this program.
there are lots of free or near free pdf writers out there without the integrated features that are a pain to learn. i use "gobeProductive" for pdf and in bothe BeOS and Windows and it is great. mind you pdf is a good way to publish not to transport documents cause it takes up so much space. i stick with word or better yet download OpenOffice. which is the best i/we think. BIG download. needs ram!
no, All it is is a printer type aplication. It acts like a printer that you would print to and however it prints it creates a PDF file of. You can do the exact same thing with http://sector7g.wurzel6.de/pdfcreator/index_en.htm which dose the exact same thing but is under the GPL.
Or you can use Openoffice.org It is under the GPL and can open office documents as well as edit them. You can save any document opned or edited in Openoffice as a PDF. Using Openoffice keeps you from haveing headers that may be printed from notepad and other software that you may not whant in your PDF file.
