pdf reader Question And Answer

How do I read PDF files when Acrobat reader doesn't work and I have no install permissions on Win2000v5sp4?

I am working on a computer running Windows 2000 version 5.0 service pack 4. I cannot install software on this computer due to the administrative policy. I need to read and print a PDF. However, Acrobat Reader 7.0, which is installed, does not work. This means, that by running AcroRd32 from the desktop shortcut, the start menu or from within an application (i.e. Internet Explorer) the most I get is a brief hourglass. Double clicking a PDF on the desktop gives me similar results.

Check the following folders for a large number of Acrxxxx.tmp files (where xxxx are random characters): C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Temp ...where username is your Windows username.* C:\Windows\Temp * To see the Local Settings folder, you may need to turn on the option to view hidden files and folders. To do this: When you open the "Documents and Settings" folder, go to the Tools Menu and select Folder Options... Click on the View tab. Select Show hidden files and folders. Click OK, then proceed to navigate to the folder described above. Try deleting these files, then run Acrobat Reader again.
