pdf Question And Answer

How do I compress a photo (8x11, 300dpi) to an easy to download PDF?

I use Photoshop, but I'm unsure of the best way to make the smallest PDF possible while retaining the quality of the image. I need the end result image to be high resolution, for press reproduction.

convert it to a jpg, resize it and give it reasonable compression and forget converting to PDF which would take more space. Jpg is more efficient. Irfan is very good, easy to use and free.
To convert the file to a PDF file, you would have to have a PDF writing program like Adobe Acrobat, which sells for about $200. They person mailed the file to would have to have the Adobe Reader to be able to open it. Plus converting it to PDF would not reduce the size of the file. What you probably want to do it: Start the Paint program (Start button > All programs > Properties > Paint) Under File, open the picture you want to resize Under Image, click on stretch/skrew Reduce the size of the horizontal and vertical stretch Resave the file by first clicking on "file type" under where you type the filename and changing it to "jpg" or "jpeg" format Give it a new name, so as not to overwrite the original fullsize version of the picture Save the picture If the size is not small enough, repeat the process.
Forget the PDF ! Use Photoshop - image - size - 300dpi but resize the photo - (8x11 is to big) - save as JPEG - tihs is one way ! Or - import photo in Photoshop - save for web and than you can choose the best size for sending image to someone - for example 150kb will be the best size for downloading !
